Course Information
Description	Anatomy and Physiology II is the second part of a two-course sequence. It is a study of the structure and function of the human body including the following systems: endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance), and reproductive (including human development and genetics). Emphasis is on interrelationships among systems and regulation of physiological functions involved in maintaining homeostasis.
Prerequisites	Corequisite(s): BIOL 2102. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 2301 and BIOL 2101
Learning Outcomes	1. Demonstrate an understanding of blood composition, blood functions, blood disorders, heart anatomy, cardiac conduction system, determinants of cardiac output, and the events of the cardiac cycle. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3) Measured by embedded questions, and/or assignments. 2. Demonstrates an understanding of the structure of the circulatory system, mechanics of blood flow, blood pressure regulation, capillary filtration & exchange, components & functions of the lymphatic system, immune system responses, antibody production, and immune system disorders. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments. 3. Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy of the pulmonary & renal systems, mechanics of ventilation, pulmonary volumes, gas exchange, respiratory disorders, glomerular filtration, urine formation & composition, regulation of water & electrolyte balance, aced/base balance, and functions of chemical & physiological buffering systems. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments. 4. Demonstrate an understanding of the physical & chemical digestive processes occurring in the mouth, stomach & intestines, structure of the components of the GI system, GI motility, gastric regulation, functions of the salivary glands, liver, gall bladder, & pancreas, energy balance, nutrient intake, and the major metabolic pathways. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments. 5.Demonstrate an understanding of the primary & secondary male & female reproductive structures, sperm formation, male & female puberty, oogenesis, ovarian cycle, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, childbirth, lactation, fertilization, human development, embryonic & fetal nutrition, and fetal circulation. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments. 6. Demonstrate an understanding of reading material including relevant terminology. (PSLO alpha) Measured by pre-post test questions. 7. Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with fellow students to complete an assignment, and/or cover assigned material. (PSLO 4) Measured by group assignments in the lab portion of the course. 8. Demonstrate an understanding of the general function of the endocrine system including, mechanisms of hormone action, regulation of hormone release, hormone actions, endocrine glands, and endocrine disorders and treatments. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3, alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

Textbooks	Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer. A textbook and an access code are required for this course. The textbook is "Human Anatomy & Physiology", 2nd ed by Erin Amerman. The access code is "Modified Mastering A&P" that accompanies this book. If you used this book and access code for Bio 2301/2101, you do NOT need to purchase another one. The ISBN number for the textbook only is 978-0134-754239 The ISBN number for the Modified Mastering A&P access code is 978-0134-78807-4             The Access code can also be purchased directly from Pearson on the Mastering A&P site (Cheapest place). If purchased online, there will be 2 options (approximate prices) a $70 version and a $120 version. The ONLY difference between these is the $120 version includes an electronic textbook (etext) while the $70 version does not. This MAP access code is ABSOLUTELY required and you will also be able to use it for the lab, and for A&P2 lecture and lab (4 courses). Instructions for purchase are posted in the Course Information folder on the course website. The textbook and access code are available at the LSCPA bookstore as a packaged bundle with the ISBN number 978-0135-19376-1. The access code in this bundle contains access to the etext.

Determination of Final Grade	Your grade for this class will the average of your 5 exam grades and your average of the online MAP assignments. Each exam as well as the MAP average will count for approximately 16.667% of the course average. All exams in this course will be given online. Installation of Respondus Lockdown Browser is required on any computer to be used to take an exam/quiz. MOST VERSIONS OF CHROMEBOOKS ARE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH RLB AND THUS CANNOT BE USED TO TAKE EXAMS. Inability to access a computer does and/or lack of internet does not excuse you from the requirements and/or deadlines of the course. Computer labs on the LSCPA campus are available for use. Exams not completed by the end of the availability dates will receive a grade of “0”. There are no re-takes on any exams and no grades are dropped when calculating course average. MAP assignments not completed by the due date will have a late penalty assessed.

Instructor Policies	Please read the Online Orientation document posted on the course website for a full list of course policies. Many of the questions you may have about this course are addressed in this document. It is imperative that you check your email EVERY DAY. This is an online class and email is the only way I have to contact you. When sending an email to me, please use the "Send Email" link from within the course so that the course and section number are automatically included in the subject line. -- I have to know what course and section you are in.
Attendance Policy	This is an online class and it is the responsibility of each student to have a RELIABLE computer AND Internet access for the duration of the course. Computer labs at LSCPA are available for use. Please note that some course material may not be accessible using a cell phone and/or tablet device. In this online class there are no scheduled class "meeting times" and it is your responsibility to manage your schedule to include completion of course requirements. All lectures have been recorded and the links to these videos are posted on the course website. In addition, the lecture notes contain QR codes to the lecture video that corresponds to that particular section(s) of the notes. You may email me at any time with questions. If you wish to have a virtual office visit, please email me a time and I will email you a zoom link.
Academic Honesty	Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
Facility Policies	No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
